Can acrylic be used outdoors, and how should it be cleaned?

14 / EXPOSURE AND MAINTENANCE

For outdoor use, check the exact sheet grade as well as the printing, joints and fixings.

An outdoor acrylic sign is shown with sun, rain and fixings, alongside a soft cloth and a finish-specific care record.
Outdoor suitability concerns the whole product: sheet, print, joints and fixings. Cleaning instructions also depend on the finish.

Match weathering claims to the exact material

Weathering claims must identify the material they cover. If a sheet is offered with a 30-year warranty against visible yellowing, verify the eligible grade, covered properties and warranty terms. That example does not establish the same warranty for an unspecified acrylic sheet or for a complete finished product.

Review the complete outdoor product

Assess sheet durability and finished-product durability separately. Even when the sheet is suitable for an outdoor sign, check the ink, bonded joints and fixing hardware. The review covers more than it would for an indoor desk sign.

Match cleaning to the finished surface

Cleaning affects service life. Start with a damp soft cloth and a cleaner approved for the material, and avoid dry rubbing. A printed part also needs the print-specific care instructions; the cleaning method for bare sheet cannot automatically be applied to the printed finish.
